Condensing Time and Light into Ceramic

Content:
"Condensing Time and Light into Ceramic: Old Tiles from Taiwan and the Netherlands" was a specially commissioned exhibition of tiles from two museums in the Netherlands displayed in contrast of majolica tiles imported to Taiwan during the Japanese occupation period. The designs on the tile and their ingenious applications in daily life give us an opportunity to appreciate the many styles of majolica tiles and their multitude of uses to which they were put. Their dazzling colours and flowing lines, auspicious oriental patterns and western-style depiction of everyday scenes, anilmals, and biblical and mythical stories, make the tiles culturally distinctive and evoke a sense of nostalgia.
