  • Yen Shui-long
    Three Sunflowers
    43×43×5.5 cm, 1995
    Porcelain, Glaze
In oil painting, Yen loved to use bright and contrasting colors. This style is also presented in many of his ceramic plates. With a few simple strokes, Yen painted the sunflowers as a symbol of the sun, which are full of passion and hope and show the strong vitality.

Weaved Diamond Pattern Lampshade with Ceramic Base
    52×52×87 cm, 1984
Clay / National Science and Technology Museum
The base is decorated with diamond patterns while the lampshade was made using processed stalks from the Taiwanese shell-ginger flower. The piece is an example of Yen’s efforts to promote aesthetic beauty in everyday-life.

    Yellow Fish
    64×64×8.5 cm, 1994
    Porcelain, Glaze
Yen enjoyed to use white, yellow, blue, and green in painting. On this white porcelain plate, a yellow fish swims in the blue ocean. The strong contrast of the bright colors seems to encapsulate the momentary vision of the audience.
