In one of the chapters on poetry in Liu Xie’s “Literary Mind and Carving Dragons,” it says, “The literary atmosphere of early Song dynasty was exalted and the styles are variable. During that time, poetry about landscapes became popular and replaced previous theories by philosophers, such as Zhuang Zi and Lao Zi.” The spirit of landscape became the mainstream of the poetry.

Incising “Ancient Mountain Kiln” on the ceramic seal is an expression of the artist’s gratitude to the kiln owner. The stylized rows of mountains on the side seem to imply unlimited affection in the friendship.
