  • Information
2022 is an important year in Taiwan-Israel cultural exchange. Facilitated by the Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, Yingge Ceramics Museum collaborated with MUZA, Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv to present select works from The Tel Aviv Biennale of Craft & Design.

The Tel Aviv Biennale of Craft & Design was held for the first time at MUZA in 2020, aiming to break down material boundaries and connect art, design, and video. Its theme, “First Person. Second Nature,” describes the connection between artists and their materials - unmediated and total physical, emotional and mental engagement with the medium that serves him/her as a means for self-expression, a habit developing into a “second nature,” a dynamic force, and an inner compass.

This exhibition builds on this core concept, displaying 10 sculptures and installations, along with 3 video works. The materials involved include ceramics, metal and videos. The artists used appropriate materials to convert their ideas into art, drawing from ancient Israeli culture. They also reflect on the functions and limitations of materials, attempting to transcend formal boundaries of materials and reinvent traditional expressions. They freely experiment, achieve breakthroughs, and attain actualization, introducing viewers to the surprises arising from the interactions among materials.
