  • Pablo PICASSO
    Pablo PICASSO (1881-1973)
    Born 25 October 1881 in Malaga. Spanish painter, draughtsman and sculptor, Picasso is considered one of the most important artists of the twentieth century. With Georges Braque, he founded Cubism and is one of the leading exponents of Modern art. As a child, Picasso started drawing with his father, a drawing teacher.

    1895 He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Barcelona and then at the San Fernando Royal Academy in Madrid.
    1904 He relocated permanently to Paris and befriended Max Jacob, Apollinaire, Matisse and Braque.
    1909 Founded Analytical Cubism with Braque.
    1920-1924 Neo-classical period.
    1925 First Surrealist exhibition at Galerie Pierre, Paris.
    1936 Political engagement with the Spanish Republicans against Franco.
    1946 Relocation to the Côte d’Azur, France.
    1950 Picasso commences working in clay. In the 1950s, he confronted masters of the past and painted works that reflect the oeuvre of Velasquez, Delacroix and Manet.
    1970 Inauguration of the Picasso Museum in Barcelona.
    1985 Inauguration of the Picasso Museum in Paris.

    Picasso's creation includes the most popular artistic styles of the twentieth century, such as Surrealism, Expressionism, and Classicism. His remarkable creativity makes him one of the great artists of modern times.
