    Around 1948, as Tsukamoto Kaiji's interaction with the East Asian ceramics researcher Koma Fujio grew deeper, he began researching Chinese white and blue-and-white wares of the Song dynasty. His pattern-carving technique in particular was highly esteemed, and in 1983 he received the honor of being designated a "Living National Treasure" for his skill in making white and blue-and-white ware. This work shows Tsukamoto's high level of carving skill on a foliate rim bowl.
