    Director, Gangjin Celadon Museum
I would like to express my best wishes for the exhibition “Ambiant Green Flow – the Emergence and Rise of East Asian Celadon” organized by the New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum, renowned for its locus at the heart of Taiwan ceramics.

This exhibition is meaningful in its focus on the research of celadon production history in the Asian region, its reflections on the accomplishments in celadon art of our ancestors, and as a site for learning using a comparative overview of Korean, Chinese and Japanese ceramic art.

The celadon praised by China's Taiping Laoren of the Song dynasty as “The Emerald Celadon of Koryo is supreme in the world” in his work “Xiuzhongjin”, were mainly produced in the Gangjin region of Korea. Gangjin was the site of the only imperial kiln of the Goryeo dynasty. For over 500 years, from the 9th century until the 14th century, it was hailed as a mecca for the flowering of Korean celadon. of the 500 celadon kilns across Korea today, some 200 are located in the Gagnjin area. Furthermore, 80 percent of the Koryo celadon designated as national treasures was produced in Gangjin. Gangjin can be described as the homeland of traditional Goryeo celadon.

I feel very honored to be able to include works that represent the importance of Gangjin in this special exhibition, each of which has been carefully selected after a lengthy research and collection process.

Finally, I hope that this exhibition will provide an introduction to the true essence of celadon culture in the East Asian region including not only Korea, but China, Japan and Taiwan, and that this exchange will serve as a foundation for future cooperation.
    Thank you.
