  • Small Box with Peony Pattern, Inlaid, Celadon
The body and glaze of this box are good quality with the glaze being a dark green color. The vessel is made up of a vase and lid with a small circular base. The whole vessel is covered with decorative patterns and the flat lid is decorated with a black inlaid painted depiction of peonies. Around the circumference of the lid is a white inlaid meandering line pattern and the area from the opening of the vessel to close to the base is decorated in a fine a scrolling floral pattern. After the glaze is applied, the glaze on the area where the lid and rim come into contact is removed to ensure they do not melt together thereby sealing the vessel. Inside the base there are three areas where one can see the setter firing marks.
