The Timeless Beauty of Celadon
Commissioner of Cultural Affairs Department, New Taipei City Government
enduring appeal to the cultured classes. In its many guises, whether as a cold quiet beauty, or a minimalist modern beauty, celadon is a lively and versatile medium that allows for the application of character likenesses, abstract sculpture, floral and botanical motifs, etc. Works from Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Mainland China have been invited by the New Taipei City Government to participate in this exhibition “Ambient Green Flow – the Emergence and Rise of East Asian Celadon”. The exhibition encompasses a breadth and depth of time and space. Whether in the historic celadon from the Western Zhou dynasty to the Qing dynasty, in the Koryo celadon of Korea, or in Arita celadon from Japan, there is a discernable enduring beauty that has been only been honed and tempered by the passage of changing times, opening up new paths within tradition. The historical and cultural context unique to East Asia is still visible in contemporary works of celadon. With the frequency of international exchanges today, it is truly a rare opportunity that we are able to gather all of these artistic works of celadon from different countries together for one exhibition. The New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum is the first museum in Taiwan dedicated to the exhibition of ceramic arts. This comprehensive exhibition of East Asian celadon is a show of the Museum’s potential in promoting contemporary ceramic culture and international exchange. The mission of promoting culture and arts by the Government of New Taipei City strives to expand new artistic platforms for international exchange. Through this exhibition, we hope that the artistic scope of our citizens will be broadened, and that the aesthetics of living will be pushed to the fore.Enable GingerCannot connect to Ginger Check your internet connection
