  • The Beginning of Yingge Ceramics
The earliest application of ceramic tile for construction purpose in Yingge was during the years of Daokuang, when Chen Kun came to Kanchiao of Tahu to make tiles. Later during the Japanese reign period, this place was under ownership of Lin Wan-Shuei. However, what differed from other ceramic origins in Taiwan was the tiles produced in other origins all appeared earlier than ceramic production, but only Yingge is unique. Therefore, the tile manufacture record of Yingge area in Daokuang years may not be the real earliest tile production record of Yingge. The tile industry of Taho district has extended till now, and is the most centralized region in Yingge.

The red tile burning and production of Taiwan has been made by use of tile kiln. If black tiles are to be made, then a shaded kiln shall be used or by covering a kiln with a gutter for pouring water for reduction purpose. The applied earth is the general field earth, while fuels are natural plants of wood, etc. The existing tile kiln on Kuoching Street is to add a gutter over a tile kiln body and, after air pollution prevention and restriction of coal burning, 3 small chimneys were removed by using a quadruple conic chimney, forming a kiln body of special formation and application. Its structure and formation background are worth for further study.
