Many people know Tsai, Hsiao-fang by his archaize ceramics. In 1983, he was invited by Chiang, Fu-ts'ung the former director of the National Palace Museum, to make archaize antiques. This opportunity led him to devote himself entirely to going deep and wide into Chinese ceamics culture. He realized that it's easy to copy the outer form of antique. Yet only by having precise proportions, angles, curves, thickness of clay body, and even weight can reach the perfect balance between shape and glazing. Meanwhile, rich chemistry knowledge and experience, a thorough study of available literature, and cross-checking of ancient books are all fundamental to ceramic creation. Through innumerable experiments and corrections, Tsai has made a great deal of celadon works. This exhibition presents only parts of his collection
