Distant View-Signe
For winning the Grand Prize in the Concorso Internazionale della Ceramica d'Arte, Faenza in 1985, as well as other prizes, Fukami Sueharu is a representative of contemporary Japanese ceramics and is active on the international stage. Starting in the late 1970s, Fukami started using high-pressure slipcasting techniques to make large works with symbolic meanings. This work, which rises straight up as if it were about to break through the heavens, is representative of Miura's oeuvre.
Space
Besides using high-pressure slipcasting techniques, Miura shows an outstanding command of shaping on the wheel. Space is generated naturally as the centrifugal force stretches the clay on the wheel outward, and at the same time a serene beauty is created from the sharp form of the piece and the bluish-white color of the porcelain.
Sky III-I
High pressure slip casting technique is utilized in this work. Then, the deeper contours are cut-away carefully and perfectly. After bisque firing, it was glazed for another firing. 《SKY series》presents beautiful curves expanding in the horizontal direction, which express a world of mind with deep insight.
