This figurine is a representation of one of the legendary eight immortals He Xiangu. He is dressed in baggy clothes with big sleeves and appears relaxed as she sits upright on a rock with her right hand on her knee and left hand holding a lily pad which rests on her right shoulder. He Xiangu is one of the most popular mythical figures of folklore beloved by the people. This piece was produced by exposing the original clay body, so that the unglazed head, hands and rocks are flesh-red in color, whereas the green glaze applied to the clothes creates a clear contrast of color, which helps to make the figurine more vivid and lifelike.
