Longquan Celadon Vase with a Carved Floral Decoration
This vase has a flared opening, a long neck, sloping shoulders and a circular base that extends outwards. With the exception of the base the vessel is covered in a thin layer of transparent green-gray glaze. The neck is decorated with four carved ribbed lines that go around the vessel and the base with three similar circles. The neck and belly are also decorated with a rough carved scrolling floral pattern. Production at Longquan kilns dropped precipitously during the Qing dynasty and there was a clear decline in the quality of ceramic vessel. This piece is heavy, but in terms of form it is also not particularly regular or well proportioned.
