  • Liou Chen-chou
Raised in rural Hsinchu, I have always felt a special closeness to nature. Lately in my works I have been portraying the relationship between people and their habitat, exploring the meaning of the human existence in nature and sharing the freedom I feel when working on my art.

    Landscape / 2008 / 15.5×37×22 cm
The most unforgettable place in this artist's childhoodis a pond beside the farms.

Sidewalk in the Field Mountain / 2009 / 47×41×23 cm
The free-flowing glaze and the accumulated ash on the steps enhance the solemn peacefulness of the work. He was reminded of the oblique light of a sunset by the forest, where an autumn breeze carries the falling leaves. He wandered into the mountain by treading a moss-covered trail.

The Light from the Sky / 2011 / 56×54×29 cm
Under thesky, majestic mountains and steep cliffs stand witness to the transit of celestial bodies. Mist and fog shroud the hills, only to dissipate later. Similarly transient are the clouds circling the peaks. A cave suddenly reveals itself on the slopes.Just beyond the steps is a glow that seems to beckon us to venture into an untraveled dimension.
